While you’re lying on the beach under the shade of a palm tree what do you think about?

What really are holidays good for?

Well, consider that it’s an opportunity to step away from the familiar and gain a clear perspective of your current job.

Consider these questions:

  • Do you feel sufficiently challenged in your current role? Or you’re so challenged that you are overstretched and exhausted?
  • Are you valued for your input and achievements? Or are you overlooked and unappreciated?
  • Do you receive positive feedback and encouragement to learn and achieve more? Or, is work a day to day grind without affirmation?
  • Can you see opportunities for growth in responsibility and leadership? Or, do you have a dead end job?

Only you can answer these questions and know the truth about your professional life. If it sucks, do something about it.

This is what holidays are for. They provide a clear space in your head to consider your current role.

So, get your Ipad out and start making notes for your CV. Or go on line and see what’s out there.

Believe me that’s what many people are doing. I am amazed at the number of email requests about vacancies I receive on weekends and holidays.

So use the time under the beach umbrella to consider what you really want to do with your career. If you want some help, you can always contact us!

Good luck in your next step!
